10. Quemical hearts and Am I really maturing?

Today I watched Chemical Hearts by Lilli Reinhart and Austin Abrams in amazon prime. This film is about Grace, a teenage girl who lost his boyfriend a year ago to a car accident, and Henry, a teenage boy who has everything: A good family that cares for him, a good future perspective and has now been promoted to newspaper's chief. Somehow Grace and Henry end up working together being "co-chiefs" from the high school's newspaper. Henry starts gaining interest in Grace and she, eventually, let him in. Finally, after dating for a really short time, Henry falls deeply in love but they decide to call it quits because Grace is still in love with his boyfriend, so she wants to take time for herself to figure everything out.

This film was inspiring, in a certain way, because it really hit really close to me. In the film, Grace talked about how teenagers are so misunderstood: Adults want us to be mature and express our opinions but they won't let us. We are not adults yet but we are not kids either. (It turns out this film is based on a novel by Krystal Sutherland, so now we know one of my next readings... )

I really don't have much to say about this film apart from saying that it has made me realize that I am maturing, because the fact that they don't end up together doesn't bother me. I think that's how life goes: You love someone and if they don't love you back you just got to keep trying, the thing is you are always going to be there for that person like Henry was for Grace, but the other person doesn't necessarily have to be there for you. The real question is: How many times do you have to be mistaken until you find them? Why are they hiding so well?
