Practice 11: Organizing contrast and comparison paragraphs
Today we learnt about comparison and contrast paragraphs. Then we were given two topics to compare and contrast.
BRAINSTORMING:
Brainstorm the comparison between living in a small city and living in a large city: listing
- They are both good places to live in
- They both have activities to do
- If you live in a village it is likely that you live in a house
- People know each other in a village
- Public transport is better in a city
- There are more things to do in a city
- In a city you are likely to live near your family
- If you live in a city you are likely to live in a flat
- There are more shops in cities
- People that live in a village and in a city both have traditions
- People’s behavior is different if you live in a village or in a city
Brainstorm the contrast between the advantages and disadvantages of having a job while at university: listing
- If you have a job you invest less time in studying
- If you have a job you earn money
- If you have a job you learn how to manage your time better
- If you have a job you are not thinking all day about univerity
- If you have a job you start gaining job experience
- Working while studying is a challenge and a responsibility that will give you personal satisfaction
- Stress and exhaustion
- You won’t get enough sleep
