Practice 13: How to write strong thesis statements

    Today learned about how to write strong thesis statements and about that we had to do some exercises. Also, a strong thesis statement should include:

• The author's opinion.
• An important idea that can be discussed and explained with supporting ideas.
• It should not give a fact about the topic.
• It should not state two sides of an argument equally.
• It should present the next paragraphs

     Today's practice is about writing a thesis statement for some topics:

GOVERNMENT SURVEILLANCE

    As a citizen, I consider that this measurement has many disadvantages such as the violation of people’s liberty, the money that is to be spent on equipment and the lack of trust that the government puts on their own citizens.

GUN OWNERSHIP

    In a society that seeks peace, almost no one stops to think that fire can be fought with fire. As a participant of the modern society, it seems to me that gun ownership would lead to less robbery and the increase of economy; all of that having taught the owner how to use them, of course.

GLOBALIZATION

    Our nowadays society faces a new problem: Globalization. This is a movement that consists of the increase of interactions between different regions. This movement foments news to travel too fast, creating confusion between the different cultures that take part in this and also creates fashions that are followed by most people, creating a lack of own personality.

CHANGING YOUR NAME

    The change of one’s name is a decision that can affect one’s life completely. That is why this life-changing decision is not to be taken lightly. When discussing if people should be given the opportunity of changing their name, many arguments for and against raise. From my point of view, changing your name should be permitted for 3 reasons: Some people have bad names and it is only right to let them change them, some people don't identify with the name they were given because of genre identification and, finally, it allows some people to start a new life with a new name if wanted.
